Here's The Thing

19 February 2015

I haven't been able to write on the blog recently.

Believe me I've tried - not very hard - but I've tried a little.

It's this little thing called motivation. I have zero right now.

No motivation for anything. Not cooking or cleaning or laundry or writing or reading (except for this book which earned a big fat fine and its sequel which is more of a meh.)

On my nightstand I have Charles Duhigg's The Power of Habit, but I've done nothing but show it to Jacob because I thought he should put the audiobook on hold. He did put the audiobook on hold and thanked me for the recommendation. Then it went back on my nightstand.

Right this moment I need to get up and switch the laundry. But I can't do it. I can't make myself move. I'm just here on my butt, not very Lentenly eating the Valentines cookies that didn't make it to Jake's buddies. Even though the washing machine is only eighteen steps round trip, staying still is just SO nice. So so nice.
Jacob works all the time right now. He may get like two days off between Christmas and March. Tonight he'll be home by 10? Hopefully?

All I can manage recently is getting out of the house daily. Parks and playdates and the like. Even though I'm a dyed-in-the-wool-socks homebody, I've had to get us all some space. The kids need a break from me. I need a break from me.

Because here, my friendlies, is the deal.

That would be numero tres snuggling right down into el uterus and touching down in early September, and the thing making my days a living couchfest.

So that's why I've been hiding from the blog. All I can talk about is being sick, and I hate to hate on pregnancy.

I was gonna wait to spill the news with some cutesy birth announcement on my birthday which is in like a week, but I've kinda hit bottom. We're truly and deeply stoked for this baby, but I'm losing the pregnancy game physically and mentally. My nausea antidote du jour: tell the world. So there 'tis.

WE'RE HAVING A (nother) BABY!!!!

And I'm spending yet another Lent with the not so glorious penance of: "try not to throw the cookies up."

  8. Hooray! Congratulations! There's lots of "accept the Lent God gives you" wisdom going 'round, so I think you're well within your rights to eat cookies and stay still and count your penance well done. ;) Hope the nausea clouds part soon!

  14. Oh Kate yay, and hunker away! There's nothing worse than the first trimester until it's the first trimester with multiple toddlers underfoot. You make such good looking babies, it must take lots of nausea to get them that cute. (Not that it makes life any easier right now for you but man, so stoked for you guys.)

  18. Congrats! So exciting. Hope you feel (at least a little) better soon.

Also - fantastic review of the Bennett's Temperament book. Such a good read. That book literally overhauled my relationship with my 5 year old. Turns out her Uber-Sanguine ways weren't actually *intentionally* making my Phlegmatic-Melancholic head want to implode. She just simply couldn't contain all of that enthusiasm for life. And now I can just mutter to myself (at said head implosion times) "Sanguine. Sanguine. Sanguine"

  19. So, big stink about not feeling well but soooo excited for y'all! Congrats!!! Pray you get to feeling better soon and for the rest of this little preggo journey! Hugs!

  20. Kate and her happy news wins Lent! I love that you know how many steps it is to the laundry. When preggo, I think you get to multiply them by 7. So it's really like 120 steps, and that's waaaaay too far to move. ;)

  21. Congratulations!!! I can't imagine having my husband away at work all the time while I care for two toddlers, even without the nausea, so I'm sending some prayers your way!

  26. Congratulations Kate!! So happy for you all!! This was one of the funniest pregnancy announcements ever BTW (I just love the book on the nightstand honesty.) I finally got a script for Zofran by my third pregnancy with killer first trimester nausea. FYI it is a miracle drug and whoever invented it should get the Nobel Peace Prize.

  27. Congrats!!! As soon as I started reading, I thought "I bet she's pregnant" because I was reading your post to avoid getting off the couch myself. Pregnancy solidarity sister! I was incapacitated with nausea a few months ago and discovered B6 deficiency can be a cause. I popped a multivitamin and drank some Vitamin water and was playing soccer that evening with my nephew. I stayed consistent with the multi after that and if I felt the least bit nauseated I'd drink about 1/2 cup Vitamin Water. You can eat foods with b6 but the VW gets in your system faster in your time of need. It's worth the try. I tried several flavors and the ones that didn't bother me were Acai berry and Kiwi Strawberry. Hang in there! -Amy Z

  30. So exciting!!! I was wondering if that was the case, with your absence. And then I started reading and just knew!! Hopefully the 2nd trimester will bring some nausea relief. With mine, it seemed to get worse with each kid. Hang in there and give yourself a little break - you deserve to sit on the couch! You're growing a human!

  31. Finally getting caught up on my blog reading (no thanks to my third baby! ha!) and wanted to say CONGRATS!! Hang in there, give yourself a break (you're growing a person!) and remember that the first trimester won't last forever. Hope you're feeling better soon!

  32. How wonderful!! I was right there with you as I was reading -- I totally can't make myself get up to get the laundry going as I should -- but my baby's 10 mos old and my womb's empty so I have no such excuse. Lucky!! :)

If you need help with naming that baby (not that I think you do, just sayin! I love love your kids' names) -- you might like to swing by my little baby-naming blog ... ;) http://sanctanomina.wordpress.com

  33. Congratulations and... ME TOO ME TOO ME TOOOOOOOO!!! The first trimester + end of winter + husband's punishing work schedule thing is KILLING ME. Add daylight savings totally f***ing up my toddler's naps this week, and I am just about ready to call it quits. Solidarity, sister.
