Happy Birthday HONEY (GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!!)

08 December 2014

Here at the Rhodes Log, we like bees. And we're very cliche about it.
The second post I ever wrote on this blog was about bees. Maybe you remember it. And since then I've been compelled to document any and all major bee happenings in our life.

A few days ago we had our first Texas honey harvest. After a rough start with a beetle infestation, the hive has been thriving.
Even though he didn't grow up around it, Jacob comes from generations of beekeepers, and he started beekeeping the year before we got married.

If you're Catholic, you might know that yesterday was the feast of St. Ambrose. The patron saint of bees and beekeepers. It was also the birthday of our very own beekeeper.
Yesterday, Jacob turned the big 30.
(Jacob saw the above pic and said: Is that going over my coffin?) (I'm just venturing into the world of manual photography, and apparently I overexpose when I'm feeling sentimental.)
So we got ourselves a nice hefty honey harvest, and we wanted to give some to you. Specifically this little jar right here.
As a Happy Birthday Jacob. As a Happy Feast of St. Ambrose. As a Merry Christmas. As an entirely nondenominational movement of good will. This honey is dear to us. We give it to people we love. We (especially me) like that you're here. That you read these words that I very sporadically share.

  26. I loooove honey. Tea, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, granola, lemon cayenne tea. And my latest obsession is putting it in this homemade body scrub.

Happy Birthday, Jacob! And yay St. Ambrose. My sister-in-law has a brother named Ambrose. We are toying with it as a possible middle name for the next hypothetical son!

  33. Love local honey! I was the Iowa Honey Queen in 2004 and have attended the American Beekeeping Federation Annual meeting a couple times in the past couple years. Had two hives in college but they didn't make it through an Iowa winter. Love the beekeeping community! and your blog!

  34. That sounds awesome! We'd love to try some

  35. I do put it in tea, but my favorite use of honey is actually the only good part of feeling sick: a spoonful of honey, all by itself, as a throat soother. Yum, and ahhhhh.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I mostly like my honey in tea, but a few other ways that are high on my list include: honey butter, on cinnamon toast, in coffee, and peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Ooooh, and with hot water and lemon juice! Actually that probably even tops tea.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So many amazing ways to use honey! I definitely love using it the most in my tea and yogurt. Such a fun giveaway and Happy Birthday Jacob!

    ReplyDelete

  40. Peanut butter and honey sandwich. Brings me back to being little!

  42. Would love to win this! I use honey for everything - baking, in my coffee, etc. The other day, I had a touch of viral pinkeye and I used a mix of honey, warm water and salt to make drops - cleared it up in one day!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh gosh! On toast, fruit, yogurt, and in tea!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Honey! On everything. I've got some blood sugar issues, so we use it instead of sugar. But especially in tea ;)
